Kells Local Heroes
Kells Local Heroes: A Community United
Since 2011, Kells Local Heroes has been the quiet force behind the town’s transformation, breathing new life into its streets, green spaces, and community spirit. Born in the depths of the recession, this volunteer-driven group set out with a simple but powerful goal—to make Kells a better place to live, visit, and invest in. Over a decade later, their impact is everywhere.
From tackling derelict buildings with a fresh coat of paint to rolling out a Biodiversity Plan, KLH has played a vital role in shaping the town’s character. They run the Pride of Place initiative, care for the Parnell Garden, and lend a hand in keeping Kells clean and welcoming for festivals, events, and everyday life.
Whether it’s the Type Trail, the Hinterland Literary Festival, or the expanding network of cycling and walking routes, KLH ensures that visitors arrive to a town that looks its best.
Their dedication extends beyond upkeep—working closely with Creative Director Mark Smith, they’re now supporting the development of the National Typographic Centre at the Sawmills, a landmark project set to open this year.
At its heart, Kells Local Heroes is about pride—pride in heritage, in community, and in the power of people coming together to make a difference. Want to be part of it? Call 087-137-1508 or email kellslocalheroes@gmail.com.
