Kells Anglers Association
Founded in 1893, the Kells Anglers Association manages the fishing rights to approximately 14 miles of the stunning Blackwater River, which flows from its source at Lough Ramor to Kells, Co. Meath. This medium-sized river is famous for some of the best Wild Brown Trout fishing in Ireland, featuring well-stocked trout that typically weigh between ½lb and 1½lb, with remarkable catches reaching up to 5lb – and even a record-breaking 10lb trout caught on a dry fly in 2004!
From March 1st to September 30th, anglers can engage in Wetfly, Dryfly, Nymph, and Streamer fishing. The Association also organizes Junior competitions and fly fishing lessons annually, fostering a fun and inviting atmosphere for families. While parents enjoy a barbecue by the river, children can learn to catch various fish species, including Trout, Perch, Roach, and Bream.
With carefully nurtured spawning streams enhancing the salmon population, the Kells Blackwater is a true fishing haven. Whether you’re just starting out or are an experienced angler, the picturesque waters around Kells promise an unforgettable fishing adventure!
