Step into History at Kells Courthouse – Tourism & Cultural Hub
Right in the heart of Kells, the Courthouse Tourism & Cultural Hub invites you on a journey through the town’s remarkable past. This beautifully restored 1801 building, designed by renowned architect Francis Johnston (of GPO & Nelson’s Pillar fame), has seen it all—from courthouse to library and now, a vibrant heritage centre.
Inside, you’ll find immersive multimedia displays, a fascinating exhibition on Kells and the Boyne Valley, and treasured replicas of the famous Book of Kells and the Kells Crozier. The intricate town model offers a unique bird’s-eye view of Kells as it once was.
But don’t stop there—step outside and explore the real thing! Wander through history at the High Crosses, Kells Round Tower, St. Columba’s Church, Colmcille’s House, the Spire of Lloyd, St. Ciaran’s Well, and the Market Cross. Follow in the footsteps of monks, scholars, and saints as you uncover the legacy of Kells.
